Training and Events

The CT Dental Health Partnership has a team of Community Engagement Specialists who can provide training in person and/or virtually for your staff or for your clients. Presentations can be customized to the general profile of your team and your clients (children, adolescents, moms-to-be, seniors, those with existing diseases or conditions, special needs, etc.) and conducted in English or Spanish.

In addition to previous courses, new training options are now focusing on the different ages and needs of the HUSKY Health member population. These training sessions feature engaging, hands-on activities that empower course takers with the knowledge and skills they need to improve and maintain their oral health.

Shining Smiles: Interactive Oral Health Training

Overview: Teaches young learners and caregivers about oral health through storytelling, demonstrations, and activities. Participants will learn proper brushing techniques and what to expect at a dentist visit.

  • Children (ages 2-7) (Preschool – 1st
    Grade), caregivers, and educators

A Lifetime of Healthy Smiles - Teeth are Terrific!

Overview: Teaches children the importance of brushing and flossing through fun, interactive activities. Participants will learn how cavities form, proper  rushing techniques, and how sugary foods affect their teeth.

  • Children (ages 6-10) (Grades 1 – 5),
    caregivers, and educators
  • Community groups promoting good oral health

Teeth to Treasure!

Overview: Demonstrates the connection between oral health and overall well-being. Participants will learn how good dental habits contribute to physical health, academic performance, and self-confidence.

  • Pre-Teens and Teens, and Adolescents (ages 11-18) (Grades 6-12)
  • Community groups promoting good oral health to adolescents 
Jeopardy game (Interactive oral health trivia); sugar education demo kit; crossword puzzle reinforcing key oral health concepts; Tips on avoiding harmful behaviors (mouth piercings, tobacco, cannabis; importance of wearing mouthguards during sports

Taking Care of You, Taking Care of Your Teeth

Overview: Essential information about oral health, HUSKY Health dental insurance, and accessing care. Participants will learn about dental benefits, how to navigate the healthcare system, and practical steps to maintain good oral health.

  • Adults (ages 19-63) interested in improving oral health and accessing dental care 
  • Individuals with HUSKY Health Insurance or those seeking dental coverage.

Oral health education game (Jeopardy, Bingo, or Q&A multiple-choice activity); HUSKY Health Insurance Card Overview (understanding dental coverage); sugar education demo.

Taking Care of You, Taking Care of Your Teeth (FOR OLDER ADULTS)

Overview: Reminds older adults how to maintain good dental hygiene, prevent common oral health issues, and navigate dental care resources. Through engaging activities and demonstrations, participants will gain practical knowledge for older adult oral health issues.
  • Older adults looking to improve or maintain oral health
  • Caregivers and healthcare professionals who work with older adults

Oral Health Bingo; “Always Learning: Adults Over 60” Video; brushing and flossing demo; How to Register as a Member Online.

Taking Care of You and Your Child’s Little Teeth

Overview: Participants will learn about the importance of dental visits during pregnancy, the connection between maternal oral health and baby’s teeth, and best practices for keeping little teeth healthy from infancy through preschool.

  • Caregivers of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers

Conversation on dental care during pregnancy & bacteria transmission risks; Head Start Visuals (Flip Book): Understanding Key Oral Health Concepts; Toothbrush & Toothpaste Timeline Activity: Choosing the right products for each stage; Videos: Tips for cleaning baby gums & teaching young children to brush; Motivating Your Child to Brush: Books, fun practice activities, and reward systems.

The Social Worker’s Role in Oral Health – Online Self-Paced Training 1.5 CECs

Overview: An engaging, self-paced online training course that has been approved for Continuing Education Credit Hours for the National Association of Social Workers, CT and meets the continuing education criteria for CT Social Work Licensure renewal.

Learners will be able to identify how oral health intersects with social worker roles within micro, macro and mezzo levels of social work practice. They will review the connections between oral health and overall health and barriers faced by those seeking care. They will learn about the myriad of resources available to help them integrate oral health into their work with clients – many who are HUSKY Health members.

The Community Health Worker’s Role in Oral Health – Online Self-Paced Training 1.5 Hours

Overview: This course can give you a better understanding of the connections between oral health and the well-being of the individuals, families, and communities you serve.

You will be able to walk away with practical tools you can use with clients. This course should take you about 1.5 hours to complete, including lessons to check your knowledge along the way.
