On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning to dental and medical practitioners and consumers about the risk for dental diseases, including caries, oral infections and the loss of teeth from transmucosal buprenorphine medicines used to treat opioid use disorder and pain, as reported by Reuters. The warning covers buprenorphine tablets and films dissolved under the tongue and inside the buccal mucosa.
